    Description

This is a very scarce gutta percha or dark brown hard rubber pounce pot or ink sander container from the 1850s that originally contained fine white sand or powder that was used in the early days of writing to dry or blot ink on paper.....OR, it could have also been a pocket inkwell for travelers? Original screw on lid also made of the same dark brown material.....2"tall x 2 1/8"round....made of very dark brown gutta percha or "India Rubber" as it was often called. Threaded lid comes off and screws back down tight. This vessel could have been easily carried in one's pocket or kept in a portable inkwell set. A hard to find item!  It has some paper thin tiny colored "wafers" inside.
