Description
This is an early 160 year old Civil War soldiers' or traveler's non-spilling blown glass inkwell encased in a solid wood container! This type of pocket ink bottle was patented in 1854 and was very popular in the early 1860s with soldiers during the Civil War because it could easily be carried in one's pocket or knapsack during long marches. Also stagecoach or steamboat travelers wouldnt have to worry about the ink inside being spilled when turned over.The hand blown aqua glass ink bottle has a smooth sheared lip...bottle is completely encased in a well made wood container shaped .....The glass ink bottle is spring loaded and pressed up against the lid which screws down tightly and sealed against the lip of bottle to prevent any leakage. .....2 1/8"tall.....Wood housing is nice with only a couple small cracks in the wood near base...Guaranteed authentic 1860s pocket, non spilling inkwell........
