    Description

Antique 1865 Aqua Glass J & IEM  Igloo Ink Well Bottle, Patent Date - EUC Rare & Unique!
Antique aqua glass J & IEM octagonal igloo form inkwell, measures 2 1/4" w x 1 1/2" h.  Lots of great character to the glass from blown-in mold production with swirls/bubbles, heavily embossed (company lettering and patent date on top/sides, #6 on underside).
Excellent condition as pictured, normal signs of age/use (no cracks/chips - tiny flea bites on top lip typical from minimal rim grinding), glass production characteristics, smoke-free home.
The "Moore's" father & son owned a large ink producing company which began operations in 1858 in Warren, Mass. The first ink wells made were igloo style with a label, the second style was embossed J. M. & Son and are considered the rarest. The third style has a patent date of Oct. 31, 1865 along with the initials J. & I. E. M (which stands for John & Isaac Elijah Moore) embossed on them.
